In the 17th century, during the Mughal period, this building was the Haveli of Asif Jah who was the Governor of Lahore, the brother of Queen Noor Jehan and the father of Queen Mumtaz Muhal. During the Sikh Period, It was the Haveli of Dhayan Singh who was a senior minister of Raja Ranjhit  Singh and during the British Raj, the building was used for administrative purposes.  The Old ‘Haveli of Asif Jah’ covering an area of 42 kanals was converted into an academic institution.
